I started working remotely by coincidence in 2020, when there was a total lockdown due to COVID-19.
Before that, being remote was one of my favorite dreams, but it wasn’t that common in my country, so I was happy to be able to experience what it felt like without leaving the comfort of my current job.
The main reasons why I felt remote work was for me were the basic ones:
- I felt like I was wasting a lot of valuable time commuting every day that I could have used for more productive things.
- Being a morning person, I felt I could work better in the mornings and use the afternoons for myself.
- I felt like I was getting distracted a lot by my colleagues at work and was unnecessarily prolonging my work because I was already there and had to do something, and that at home, I could get ahead much more quickly.
From that moment on, I’ve worked remotely for five years straight. I transitioned from a company to freelancing and also tried working for myself. But after five years of working from home and reflecting on my previous years working in an office, I’ve come to a controversial conclusion: offices are actually better than working from home.
