Alibaba’s PicCopilot platform expanded its capabilities for generating Google display ads, using a new integration launched with ecommerce conversion in mind.
The new PicCopilot integration for Good Ads is targeted toward small- and medium-sized ecommerce operators, according to Alibaba. It will offer users a workflow for assembling ads within PicCopilot that are tailored for Good Ads.
Alibaba’s online marketplace Taobao ranks No. 1 in Digital Commerce 360’s Global Online Marketplaces Database. That database ranks the world’s marketplaces by gross merchandise value (GMV). Alibaba-owned Tmall ranks No. 2. Both platforms operate in China and primarily serve the Chinese market. Among Alibaba’s other marketplaces is the global B2B marketplace Alibaba.com.
Why Alibaba launched a Google Ads integration for PicCopilot
The Good Ads integration for PicCopilot, which is trained using Alibaba International’s ecommerce data, is intended to serve merchants with limited resources, tapping generative AI to create batches of media for ads in relatively short periods of time. For example, Alibaba cites its PicCopilot’s “Viral Video Maker” feature as being able to “generate 8-10 professional video options” within three minutes, based on a single reference image provided by the user.
“Our goal is to evolve AI from a simple efficiency tool into a growth-driving engine for merchants,” said Yang Guang, vice president of Alibaba International and lead of Alibaba Design, in a released statement. “By integrating PicCopilot with Google Ads, we are democratizing enterprise-level creative marketing tools, allowing even the smallest sellers to leverage market-validated approaches to drive their business forward.”
Alibaba noted that “approximately 40% of PicCopilot users” in the U.S. are working as entrepreneurs for the first time. In this context, it sees PicCopilot’s abilities and insights as differentiators.
What the PicCopilot integration will do
Fundamentally, Alibaba intends for PicCopilot to present users with “one-click” AI-enabled options that lead to ecommerce sales, according to the company. Now, the new integration will serve to optimize those conversion outcomes when crafting and displaying ads through Google.
The new features will accompany the platform’s existing flows for social content creation. Examples can be found in tools such as PicCopilot’s Viral Video Maker, Fashion Reels and AI Product Page Design Generator.
Ultimately, Alibaba wants PicCopilot to operate as a bridge from marketing strategies to distribution and optimization across external platforms and stages online.
