Do you want to start a business, but you don’t want to show your face online?

When I first started my business, I did not show my face. I wanted to be completely anonymous because I was sharing a lot of personal financial details, and also because I am naturally a very shy person. I wasn’t sure how I felt about people reading what I was writing!

To this day, I still don’t really do videos or show my face a lot either.

So, I completely understand if you are wanting to start a faceless business idea.

Maybe you don’t want to be on camera, maybe you don’t want to post selfies, and maybe you don’t want your friends and family seeing everything you’re working on. Or maybe you’re just a private person, and you want to make money from home without becoming the “face” of a brand.

I understand this.

There are so many people who want to start a small business, but the thought of being on video, posting daily on Instagram, or sharing every part of their life online holds them back.

Thankfully, you do not need to show your face in order to start a successful business.

I’ve been working online for many years, and I know that there are so many different ways to make money from home. Some people love being on camera, and others would rather work quietly behind the scenes – both are okay.

Best Faceless Business Ideas

Here are some quick ideas if you’re not sure where to start:

  • Best for writers: Blogging, freelance writing, ebooks, email newsletters
  • Best for detail-oriented people: Proofreading, bookkeeping, spreadsheet templates
  • Best for creative people: Printables, Canva templates, print-on-demand
  • Best for introverts: Blogging, digital products, proofreading
  • Best for beginners: Virtual assisting, freelance writing, selling printables
  • Best if you like numbers: Bookkeeping, budget templates, spreadsheet products
  • Best if you like teaching: Online courses, faceless YouTube

Below are the best faceless business ideas.

1. Start a blog

Blogging is one of my favorite faceless business ideas because you can build a business by writing content, and you do not need to show your face.

With a blog, you can write about a topic you enjoy or know a lot about. This may be personal finance, food, travel, parenting, pets, gardening, home, RVing, crafts, business, or something else.

You do not have to show your face all over your blog if you don’t want to. Many blogs are built around a topic instead of a person. You can use stock photos, product photos, screenshots, graphics, or pictures that don’t show your face.

A blog can make money in many different ways, such as display ads, affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, selling digital products, and more.

You can learn how to start a blog in my free How To Start a Blog Course.

Here’s a quick outline of what you will learn:

  • Day 1: Why you should start a blog
  • Day 2: How to decide what topic to write about
  • Day 3: How to create your blog (in this lesson, you will learn how to start a blog on WordPress)
  • Day 4: The different ways to make money on your blog
  • Day 5: My advice for making passive income with your blog
  • Day 6: How to get pageviews
  • Day 7: Other blogging tips so that you can be successful

2. Bookkeeping

Bookkeeping is a great faceless business idea because many business owners need help keeping their money organized.

As a bookkeeper, you may help clients track income and expenses, organize receipts, send invoices, reconcile bank accounts, and create monthly reports.

This is different from being a CPA or tax accountant. Many bookkeepers do not prepare tax returns or give tax advice. Instead, they help keep financial records organized so the business owner knows what is going on.

This can be a great work-from-home business because most bookkeeping work can be done online. You also do not need to post videos of yourself or build a personal brand. Many bookkeepers work quietly behind the scenes and talk with clients through email or phone calls.

Bookkeeping tasks may include:

  • Tracking income and expenses
  • Categorizing transactions
  • Reconciling bank accounts
  • Organizing receipts
  • Sending invoices
  • Creating monthly reports
  • Helping clients get ready for tax time

3. Sell printables on Etsy

Selling printables is a popular faceless business because you can create digital products that people download and print at home.

Printables can be planners, trackers, worksheets, checklists, wall art, games, templates, and more.

Printable ideas include:

  • Budget planners
  • Debt payoff trackers
  • Meal planners
  • Cleaning schedules
  • Kids’ activity sheets
  • Homeschool worksheets
  • Wedding planners
  • Holiday games
  • Habit trackers
  • Goal worksheets
  • Wall art

This is a nice faceless business because you do not have to show your face or share your personal life.

To start this faceless business idea, I would think about a problem someone has that a printable could solve.

For example, a busy mom may need a meal planning printable. Someone who wants to pay off debt may want a debt tracker. A teacher may want classroom worksheets. Someone planning a party may want printable games or signs.

You can sign up for this free ebook that helps you figure out where to start when it comes to selling printables on Etsy.

4. Start a print on demand shop

Print-on-demand is when you sell products with your designs on them, but another company prints and ships the items for you.

For example, you can create designs for shirts, mugs, sweatshirts, tote bags, phone cases, hats, stickers, journals, and more.

When a customer places an order, the print-on-demand company makes the product and ships it. This means you don’t have to buy a bunch of inventory upfront or store anything.

This can be a great faceless business because you can sell under a shop name instead of your personal name. You also do not need to model the products yourself.

Print-on-demand products may include:

  • T-shirts
  • Sweatshirts
  • Mugs
  • Tote bags
  • Hats
  • Stickers
  • Phone cases
  • Wall art
  • Baby onesies
  • Journals

I recommend watching How to Make Money with Print-On-Demand free workshop. In this workshop, you’ll learn how one person made $500,000 in two years selling gifts, the best types of products to sell to maximize your earnings, and how to start this side hustle on Etsy.

5. Create a faceless YouTube channel

You do not have to show your face to make money on YouTube.

That may sound shocking, but there are actually many YouTube channels where the creator never appears on camera. They may use screen recordings, voiceovers, stock video clips, slides, animations, or hands-only videos.

Faceless YouTube niche ideas include:

  • Budgeting tips
  • Travel guides
  • Cooking tutorials
  • Product reviews
  • Software tutorials
  • Book summaries
  • Sceneries
  • DIY projects
  • Craft tutorials

For example, if you make cooking videos, you can film your hands and the food. If you share money tips, you can use slides and voiceovers. If you create travel videos, you can show scenery, hotels, campgrounds, walking tours, or road trip clips without ever filming your face. If you make cleaning or organizing videos, you can film before-and-after clips, time-lapses, or your hands organizing a drawer, closet, pantry, or room.

Or, you could simply just cover your face! I watch one YouTuber that just wears a face mask everywhere he goes, and he does it to stay private due to his day job.

6. Become a virtual assistant

A virtual assistant helps business owners with tasks from home.

This is a flexible faceless business because there are so many different services you can offer.

Virtual assistant services may include:

  • Email management
  • Calendar scheduling
  • Customer service
  • Blog post formatting
  • Social media scheduling
  • Research
  • Data entry
  • Inbox cleanup
  • Podcast support
  • Online shop support
  • Simple graphic design

You do not need to show your face online to be a virtual assistant. Many VAs work behind the scenes and talk to clients through email, project management tools, or messages.

I personally have a virtual assistant, and we connect and get work done entirely through email.

7. Start an email newsletter

An email newsletter can be a faceless business if you build it around a helpful topic instead of your personal life.

You could start a newsletter about saving money, side hustles, local events, travel deals, parenting tips, meal planning, simple living, business ideas, and so much more.

Newsletters can make money through:

  • Sponsorships
  • Affiliate links
  • Paid subscriptions
  • Selling digital products
  • Promoting your blog
  • Selling services

The nice thing about newsletters is that you do not need to post videos or show your face – you can write helpful emails and send them to your readers.

The newsletter platform that I have used for years is Kit (used to be called Convertkit).

8. Sell stock photos or videos

If you enjoy taking photos or videos, you may be able to sell stock content online.

Businesses, bloggers, and creators need photos and videos for websites, ads, social media, and marketing. You do not need to show your face. You can take pictures of nature, food, offices, pets, homes, travel places, or simple everyday scenes.

Stock photo ideas include:

  • Laptop and desk photos
  • Food photos
  • Travel photos
  • Pet photos
  • Home organization photos
  • Hands writing or typing
  • Nature photos
  • Holiday photos
  • Small business photos

You can sell stock photos through stock photography websites or create your own membership later on.

9. Start a faceless Instagram or TikTok account

Yes, you can grow a social media account without showing your face.

Faceless account ideas include:

  • Money saving tips
  • Budget meal ideas
  • Amazon finds
  • Travel deals
  • Simple recipes
  • Dog care tips
  • Home organization
  • Motivational quotes
  • Side hustle ideas
  • DIY projects

You can make money from affiliate links, sponsored posts, digital products, a blog, or your own services.

One thing to keep in mind is that social media changes a lot. I would not want my whole business to depend on one social media platform. If you can, use your account to grow an email list, send people to your blog, or sell your own product.

10. Write and sell ebooks

If you enjoy writing, you can create ebooks and sell them online.

Ebook ideas include:

  • How to meal plan on a budget
  • How to start a side hustle
  • How to save money as a beginner
  • How to travel with kids
  • How to organize your home
  • How to start a garden
  • How to sell on Etsy
  • How to care for a new puppy

This is a faceless business because people are buying the information. You can sell under your own name, a pen name, or a brand name.

11. Proofreading

Proofreading is another faceless business idea because you can do the work from home and behind the scenes.

Proofreaders read written content and look for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting mistakes. You may proofread blog posts, books, resumes, website pages, transcripts, emails, newsletters, or business documents.

This may be a good business if you enjoy reading, notice small details, and like making writing easier to understand.

Proofreading work may include:

  • Blog posts
  • Books and ebooks
  • Resumes
  • Website pages
  • Business documents
  • Court transcripts
  • Emails
  • Newsletters
  • Course lessons

This free 76-minute workshop answers all of the most common questions about how to become a proofreader, and even talks about the 5 signs that proofreading could be a perfect fit for you.

12. Create a membership site

A membership site is where people pay monthly or yearly for access to content, templates, community, or resources.

This can be a faceless business if the membership is focused on the resources instead of your personal life.

Membership site topic ideas include:

  • Budgeting and saving money
  • Meal planning
  • Homeschooling
  • Wedding planning
  • Blogging
  • Selling on Etsy
  • Working out
  • Travel planning
  • Photography
  • College planning

And so much more!

There’s even a monthly membership if you want to start a pet waste removal business (you can see it here)!

Memberships can be nice because they may create recurring income. Instead of selling one product one time, you can earn money each month from members.

But memberships also require ongoing value, so you need to keep giving people a reason to stay.
