The item doesn’t change, and despite what the countdown timer implies, the price rarely does either. What changes is you. Tomorrow’s version of you looks at the cart without the dopamine and sees the purchase for what it is.

For most budgets that’s somewhere between $50 and $100, but the right number is the one you’ll actually honor. Anything non-essential above it goes on a list with the date you wanted it, and you buy only after the wait. Ordinary purchases get a full day. Big-ticket ones get a full week. A note on your phone works fine.
Two details make the rule stick. First, leave the item in your cart or on your list instead of forcing yourself to forget it. The rule is a delay, not a denial. Second, if something still feels worth it tomorrow, buy it without guilt. That’s the rule working, not failing. You filtered out the noise and kept the one purchase that mattered.
