I like reviewing store builders and ecommerce platforms because they let me get experimental with how everything looks and works together.
Reviewing a logistics and fulfillment specialist, like Monta, is a bit trickier, especially if you’re planning to run an ecommerce company that serves more than one region. Monta is hyper-focused on the European market and serves companies best that cater to that market as well, with more than 20 locations across the region.
It has a lot to give the right team. You’ve got outsourced fulfillment, warehouse management, plus a great selection of direct integrations. There’s also a lot of credibility packed into the offer, like the 99.98% performance guarantee. Already about 3,000 webshops trust Monta, and I’ll help you decide whether it’s the right tool for you.
Monta Review: The Quick Verdict

- Requires 300 monthly orders for fulfillment
- Extras like training or custom connections cost more
What Is Monta, and Who Is It For?
Monta first started supporting ecommerce businesses in 1999, initially helping out with packing CD-ROMs. Now, it gives businesses warehouse software, AI-assisted picking, end-to-end fulfillment across Europe, plus support for cross-border ecommerce.

Most companies will likely use Monta either for the fulfillment services, getting the business to take custody of their stock and figure out all the headaches around receiving, storage, picking, packing, shipping then returns, or they’ll buy the MontaWMS software.
The WMS software supports stock, orders, shipping, plus returns on the basic plan, but more advanced options cover route choices, staff task assignment, automation, warehouse layout optimization, and possibilities to connect unique Monta hardware to the WMS.
There’s a lot behind both offers. Monta says it already has more than 100 developers working on making the WMS software even better for the over 3,000 webshops it already supports. Plus, there’s the 20+ Monta warehouses, the handy guides on the website, plus the team that gives you a dedicated account manager to work with you every step of the way.
In both cases, whether you’re using the WMS or the fulfillment services, Monta is built for mid-sized companies that want to get a grip on EU logistics.
Monta Fulfillment Review
We’ll start with the overall “fulfillment” service here, which covers everything you’d probably expect. Monta is great at keeping everything on track. The team can check deliveries against your inbound forecast, produce goods receipt records, update your inventory, plus give you the option between FIFO and FEFO handling. They also aim to process incoming goods within 2 hours.
Once an order arrives, Monta also offers bulk picking, barcode scanners, pick-to-light, put-to-light, then a range of exciting robots for fulfillment automation. You get the option to choose between different picking methods for B2C and B2B orders. There’s also bundling, samples, inserts, custom boxes, or printed messages available.
One of the most compelling aspects of Monta is its network. You’ve got connections to more than 50 carriers, and some of them can still provide same-day shipping on orders placed as late as 11:59pm. Sellers can name their preferred carriers, or let the Monta algorithm make the choice for them. There’s also a fantastic range of services for return management. As your partner, Monta can receive parcels, inspect, record, then repackage them for you.
The whole service also comes with access to Monta Portal, where you can check orders, stocks, shipments, returns, delivery choices, or checkout tool settings at any time. All of the support here comes with a bigger invoice, though, since Monta charges separately for everything from account setup to returns.
MontaWMS Review
MontaWMS is the software option, which also runs across the company’s own fulfillment sites. The exact features you get vary depending on the plan. The Start option, (priced at $226 per month), gives you real-time stock insights, purchasing advice, product syncing, digital warehouse management, bulk picking slips or carrier labels, tracking, checkout delivery options, plus returns.
The Pro option (priced on a quote basis) adds a surprising amount. There’s GoMonta for advanced warehouse management, Order planning software, inbound scanning, task planning, replenishment, cycle counting, warehouse heatmaps, picking hardware, then automation links.
There’s a serious amount of power to unpack here. The warehouse planning tools are particularly useful. There’s SmartStock to help show you slow-moving or expensive inventory. Warehouse Mapper gives you a pre-built digital layout, while Warehouse Viewer uses heatmaps and other tools to show where your products need to go. There are also fun extras too, like MontaCoins for employee rewards and contests in warehouse work.
The upgraded Pro plan also makes it easy to connect scanners and other hardware to your software, with an included control system to monitor equipment, processing time, faults, or performance.
It’s also worth mentioning the Monta AI Assistant, Ella, which can answer operational questions and assign tasks to the service desk. Monta’s still working on new features for this, but it’s a good insight into how future-focused the business is.
Monta Cross-Border Ecommerce and Integrations
The third “big offer” from Monta is cross-border ecommerce support, which is essentially Monta’s plan to help teams concentrating on global ecommerce. The system automatically places inventory across 20 European warehouses and processes returns locally.
Merchants with changing product ranges can also send consolidated stock from the Netherlands to France by linehaul, then hand parcels to French carriers, avoiding permanent local inventory for every SKU. Monta covers a lot of this journey for you, and a few responsibilities stay on your side as the cross-border retailer.
Monta supports teams with DDP and FCA, for instance, but you still have tax responsibilities. Sellers stay responsible for customs clearance, duties, taxes, or delivery risk, unless they end up with a specific contract stating otherwise.
It’s also worth mentioning that Monta offers more than 35 connections for international marketplaces, ecommerce platforms, including other tools like ERP or freight solutions. Those make it a more useful choice for companies that want to align complicated logistics strategies without having to constantly log into and manage different apps.
Monta Pricing and Total Value
Monta’s pricing for fulfillment support is based on the amount of physical work you demand. It calculates a quote based on everything from setup and IT connection work, for receiving items, storage by location, plus picking and packing. Other special jobs such as bundling or personalized packaging cost extra too.
The good news is you’re not tied to a fixed contract term, which is rare for a 3PL, but you’ll still have to reach minimums (at least 300 products a month) for fulfillment services. You also need to keep in mind that your monthly costs can change pretty suddenly if the team has to do more work, or you pick a different shipping solution.
MontaWMS has straight-forward pricing, with the Start plan beginning at $226 per month. The Pro option still needs a custom quote. Both routes also have a one-off implementation and training fee to think about. Then updates, support, and hardware extras might need budgeting, too.
The pricing looks fair when you think about the amount of technology and support you really get, even if Monta isn’t the cheapest logistics and fulfillment option around.
Ease of Use, Implementation, and Customer Support
I’ve yet to find a logistics system that I’d describe as being a breeze to use, but Monta’s tools are relatively user-friendly. The good part is that the company walks you through the initial setup. If you’re using MontaWMS, the team will do an on-site assessment, then configure the system to suit you, then test it, and give you a few weeks of follow-up help.
If you’re using the fulfillment services, there’s plenty of onboarding and consistent support included there too. The Monta Portal tool is also surprisingly easy to use. You can edit or merge orders, open investigations into postage issues, submit support requests, or track pending items. You’ll also get handy reports covering delivery performance, warehouse lead times, or SLA results.
Every fulfillment customer gets their own dedicated account manager, plus the ELLA AI assistant, which passes unresolved issues to the human team. The feedback I’ve seen about the overall service is relatively positive. The company has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Trustpilot, for instance, so it definitely seems like a business teams can rely on.
Security, Compliance, and Sustainability
Security is always worth a check when you’re choosing someone to help with logistics. Monta has its ISO 27001 certification, so you know data’s protected. You can also reach out to the team if you have any worries about how they manage your information. Plus, from a reliability perspective, Monta promises a 99.98% performance guarantee.
One other interesting feature is the Skal certification, which covers protection for organic goods. That could make the company particularly appealing to companies selling food, certain cosmetics, or even supplements. Other carriers rarely offer the same level of niche support.
I’ll also mention that the sustainability credentials are compelling too. Monta can pick orders without paper. Its automated packing machines also cut boxes to size. There’s also an Eco Button that lets shoppers switch from 24-hour to 48-hour delivery. Plus, the Monta packing system is configured to reduce empty box space by up to 35%.
How Does Monta Compare with the Alternatives
I still like popular tools like Shipbob for ecommerce companies that want to manage fulfillment outside of Europe, thanks to its 60 fulfillment centers, plus support for 200 destinations. Shipbob also gives you warehouse software, though it’s mostly focused on the US.
Byrd is a good European competitor, though it’s a bit smaller than Monta right now, with only 12 fulfillment centers across the UK and EU. Sendcloud is interesting if you’re more focused on warehouse management. You can access courier rates, labels, returns, checkout delivery options, plus tracking in one place, but there’s no fulfillment support.
On the other hand, Mintsoft or Linnworks might be good choices if you want warehouse and order software that doesn’t push you into a specific provider’s ecosystem.
Monta Review: My Final Verdict
Monta is worth a closer look this year if you’re based in Europe. It’s a strong fit when your logistics software is making it harder to scale. It gives retailers an incredible amount of room to choose the exact level of support they need. You can get Monta to hold, manage, and ship your stock if you need that kind of partnership. Or you can access the MontaWMS and use it to run the warehouse you already own.
You’re also getting plenty of freedom when it comes to making carrier choices, handling returns, managing marketplace orders, giving customers different checkout delivery options, or picking your own hardware. Many rivals cover parts of that well. Monta covers the widest span of it for EU sellers.
Monta is worth trying for most mid-sized EU companies. It suits teams that want real depth in European logistics, with add-ons and extra support available as they grow.
