Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the newest addition to their family, a puppy named Javi whose move to their New York City home has been delayed by health problems.
“We don’t have him yet because he had a little bit of a health issue,” Ripa told People magazine on Oct. 18 during a Broadway outing for the opening of “Other Desert Cities.”
Consuelos shared some additional details, noting their new rescue dog has “a parasite.”
“They’re treating it, and then he’s going to come,” the “Live with Kelly and Mark” host explained.
The couple expect their little four-legged friend to become an official resident of their Upper East Side townhouse “any day now,” according to Consuelos.
Ripa and Consuelos fell for the dog—whose name was originally Lucas before they renamed him—during the “Adopt a Dog Week”-themed episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark” on Oct. 12.
Javi, who came from a New Jersey-based organization called Pet ResQ Inc., seemed to have made an immediate impact on Consuelos.
“Listen, Mark walked into my dressing room this morning with Lucas in his arms,” Ripa said. “And I saw a different you. I saw a kinder, gentler you.”
Although the couple quickly realized they wanted to add the pooch to their family, they made sure he’d get along with their current dog, Lena, a Maltese-shih tzu mix they adopted in 2020.
They decided to “have a chemistry test” to see if the two dogs would get along, and by the Oct. 13 episode, were thrilled to announce the “meet cute” went well. They officially adopted Javi and noted they’d be taking things “slow” to ensure the two pups could get used to living with each other.
“We have a new baby. Not living in the house yet. Gotta wait for a couple of medicals, a couple of tests, but we are, like, expectant parents,” Ripa told viewers. “Like, I started nesting last night. I could’t sleep. I started making a nest.”
When Javi eventually does make it home to the Ripa-Consuelos abode, he’ll have plenty of space to explore. The couple purchased the sprawling 7,796-square-foot residence for $27 million in 2013.
Aside from their pets, Ripa, 56, and Consuelos, 55, are parents to Michael, 29, Lola, 25, and Joaquin, 23.
Ripa has previously expressed that she’d like to spend the rest of her life in their current home, even telling Architectural Digest it is the “final place” where she will live.
“They’ll have to carry me out of here feet first because I have gotten good and comfortable in this house,” she joked.
But with that said, her daughter appears to have another plan.
In December 2025, Ripa revealed that Lola, who relocated to the United Kingdom in 2023, is hopeful her parents will join her overseas.
“Lola is always trying to get us to move to London, as if we don’t work in New York,” she shared. “She’ll leave us these subtle hints when she’s home, when there is something on sale in London.”
Despite having their feet firmly planted on domestic soil, Ripa and Consuelos do travel abroad to visit their middle child. The proud parents surprised Lola at a 2025 performance, which was held to celebrate the launch of her EP.
“We wanted to go, but we didn’t want to add any more pressure by us being there. She told us not to go, specifically,” Consuelos said. He and Ripa were able to pull off the unexpected visit by sneaking into the crowd.
