Is it day 4 or day 40 of quarantine? I don’t know, but I’m shook. Our worlds have been turned upside down and inside out, however, one thing is for sure: we need to stay home. For those of us with a wandering heart, all this time in one place can feel limiting. While we stay inside and stay safe, I urge you to plan that lifelong bucket list, learn a new skill, or take this time to compile your travel photos into the ultimate travel memoir. Here’s exactly how you can travel without leaving home.

Travel without leaving home: Plan your Ultimate Bucket List

One thing is for sure: when the world is back on its feet, we’ve all got some making up to do on the adventure spectrum. Now that I’ve come to terms with how accessible and available travel is, I’m going to be more careful about the destinations I select and never take the chance to explore for granted. On my “must visit” is Uzbekistan, Georgia, and a long escape to a cabin in the woods. Probably to finish writing my book.

Cook a Meal from your favourite Cuisine

One thing I’ve been on top of during quarantine is my cooking schedule. Without nights out, restaurants and food delivery services, I’m really making the most of this time to cook meals at home. My favourite cuisines are Mexican, Thai and I’m a sucker for classic British desserts. One of my favourite ways to travel without leaving home is to bring the world to me in my kitchen.

Learn a new Language

As someone who grew up in Australia, learning a language beyond English has never been a viable option. Now that I’m living in South Africa, I have my heart set on learning Afrikaans. For those of you not privy, the Afrikaans language shares a lot of similarities with Dutch, given the Dutch colonised South Africa. It is certainly not the easiest language to master, but I do love a good challenge! Duo Lingo is single-handedly the best free language course offering on the market.

Create that Travel Blog you’ve always wanted to

This month I launched the travel blogging master course. The most commonly asked question on my Instagram is “how do you do it?” I’ve wanted to create a course like this for as long as I can remember and share it with my audience. The course will take you through step-by-step to help you create your own travel blog that can lead to a career in travel writing, photography, or mastering the travel influencer space. Join the course!

Virtually Visit a Museum

One of the most popular articles I shared since quarantine began has been the 10 best museums you can virtually visit around the world. There are some incredible collections you can virtually browse and more often than not, you get a better view than when you visit in person! No crowds!

Read a great Travel Memoir

Now is as good a time as any to bust open that book case and dust off the shelves. There are a number of epic travel memoirs that should be on your “best of all time” reading list, as well as some newer reads you might not have heard about yet. Here are our selects:

A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway

One for the book nerds, you can’t beat a trip to Paris with Hemingway’s classic. I can’t count how many times I’ve re-read this memoir.

What I was doing while you were breeding by Kristin Newman

This is a really fun, light-hearted read that is witty and all-encompassing. It’s a fun reminder that there is an alternative to “the norm”.

Into the Wild by Jon Krakaeur

I read this book back when I was studying at university and it is one of the reasons I decided to travel the world full time.

Watch a travel film

Sometimes a book won’t cut it and you just want an immediate transportation to another time and place. There are some great travel films out there that never get old such as Eat Pray Love, Into the Wild, Under the Tuscan Sun and The Beach.

Revisit your Favourite Travel Blogs

In the golden age of travel we’ve been living in, one of the best things to come of accessible travel is the endless (free) information online. This is the perfect time to revisit some of your favourite travel blogs and rediscover destinations you can visit when travel bans lift.
