A romantic stone manor in North Carolina is offering bibliophiles the chance to create their ultimate sanctuary courtesy of a dramatic two-story library that is just waiting for its shelves to be filled.

Known as Stone Manor, the custom-built estate recently came to market for $7.2 million, having last changed hands in 2018.

Located inside the gated Longview community in Waxhaw, about 30 minutes south of Charlotte, the 11,279-square-foot residence features so much old-world grandeur that visitors could be forgiven for thinking it has been standing there for centuries.

In reality, the seven-bedroom, 7.5-bathroom residence was completed in 2005—although it has undergone a “thoughtful and extensive renovation” in recent years.

The home’s European-inspired architecture leans heavily into timeless craftsmanship. A commanding stone exterior, dramatic arched openings, soaring ceilings, intricate millwork, and wide-plank flooring create the feel of a centuries-old country estate rather than a modern luxury build.

“Stone Manor has the presence and craftsmanship of a timeless European-inspired estate,” says listing agent Miriam Peters, of Peters & Associates, Inc.

“Its architecture is defined by substantial stonework, grand proportions, soaring ceilings, dramatic arched openings, and extensive custom millwork.”

One of the home’s most striking spaces is its library, complete with floor-to-ceiling bookcases and an upper gallery overlooking the room below. A wall of bow windows help to flood the space with light, adding further romance to the beautiful room.

There is also plenty of space to add cozy seating, where residents can curl up with their favorite tome and forget the outside world.

The library is reminiscent of spaces that are usually only ever seen in movies—like the incredible space featured in the Disney movie “Beauty and the Beast,” or Hogwarts’ mysterious study spaces in “Harry Potter.”

It is no surprise then that Peters describes it as one of the estate’s most memorable features, alongside “the sweeping curved staircase beneath a domed ceiling,” multiple fireplaces, and carefully framed views throughout the home.

While the architecture delivers plenty of drama, the residence was designed with livability in mind.

“Despite its scale, the residence does not feel cold or institutional,” Peters says. “Each room has its own identity, yet the spaces connect naturally for everyday living and large-scale entertaining.”

Beyond the library, the home includes grand formal and informal entertaining rooms, a temperature-controlled wine room, beautifully appointed guest accommodations, and five fireplaces.

Recent renovations updated the kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, lighting, and interior finishes with high-end materials while preserving the home’s original architectural character, giving buyers the appeal of a mature estate without the burden of a major renovation.

A saltwater swimming pool and spa anchor the wooded backyard, joined by a pool house, an outdoor kitchen, covered entertaining spaces, and an exterior fireplace. Sweeping golf course views complete the setting while mature landscaping helps maintain a remarkable sense of privacy.

The home also includes a four-bay garage with a dedicated golf-cart bay.

The property sits within Longview, one of the region’s premier gated golf communities. While club membership is separate, residents enjoy convenient access to golf, tennis, dining, fitness facilities, as well as all the nearby shopping and restaurants of Charlotte, Ballantyne, and Waxhaw.
