Costco saved a place for DoorDash in its plans to expand delivery options in the U.S., opening up options for orders through the same-day, last-mile platform.
DoorDash’s announcement represented a significant expansion of its relationship with Costco, which already included service in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Iceland and Puerto Rico. It also arrived on Sept. 17 in the same week that saw Costco and Uber Eats roll out new ordering options in the U.S.
Costco is No. 7 in the Top 2000 Database. The database is Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of the largest online retailers in North America by their annual ecommerce sales. It’s also the fourth-largest Mass Merchant in the database.
Why Costco is important for DoorDash
“Costco members have been asking for Costco on DoorDash, and today we’re delivering,” said Mike Goldblatt, vice president of enterprise partnerships at DoorDash. “By pairing Costco’s quality, value and selection with DoorDash’s reach and local delivery network, we’re giving members more flexibility in how they shop.”
In addition to demand from Costco members, DoorDash also saw interest among users on its own platform, where it shared that “Costco ranked among the most-searched retailers not yet available on DoorDash.”
Moving forward, DoorDash will provide Costco members with the ability to order groceries, pantry staples, household essentials, electronics, seasonal merchandise, Kirkland Signature products and other products from local Costco warehouse locations. Those orders will be available for same-day delivery.
“The U.S. launch also marks the next chapter in a global partnership already serving Costco members around the world,” Goldblatt stated.
How Costco members will be able to use DoorDash
More than 4,000 products will be available from Costco through DoorDash, according to the vendor’s announcement. To order, U.S.-based Costco members will be able to search for the retailer in the DoorDash app and enter their Costco membership information to complete their transactions.
In cases where a DoorDash user is not already a Costco member, they will be presented with information to sign up.
Costco CEO Ron Vachris told investors during a May earnings call that same-day delivery from third-party partners had “become a highly effective way to deliver more convenience” to members. Costco works with Instacart, in addition to Uber Eats and DoorDash.
In the meantime, delivery has been an important part of the growing online grocery market, where sales increased by at least 20% year over year in the six consecutive quarters through Q1 2026, according to analysis by the firm Brick Meets Click.
